Lightning and thunder can be used as an analogy for the speed of a lie vs. the speed of the truth. A lie happens and spreads like the flash of lightning. It is sudden, sensational, blinding, and catches everyone off guard. And the truth is like the delayed sound of thunder that is heard afterward. What’s interesting about this analogy is that Scripture uses lightning to describe how Satan is cast down from heaven to the earth. And the devil is called the father of lies.
“And he [Jesus] said to them, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.’” - Luke 10:18
“…When he [Satan] lies, he speaks according to his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” - John 8:44
