And this is entertainment?

Block it, I guess, if you find it to be so “indecent.” However, I seem to think your argument is rather silly because showing a cherubic-faced old nun praying the Rosary is quite different from the soft core pornography on prime time tv. There is an obvious difference, that you cannot deny.
There’s softcore pornography on primetime TV? Could you cite an example. Is this the U.S.A., Canada, U.K., or Australia?

I don’t find it indecent. I find it boring. I don’t watch it. So, I’d rather dump it if I could save some money.

It’s simple. People don’t like various channels for various reasons, and would like to dump them.

But, we both have the same option: don’t watch. Have you considered blocking that soft porn?

I apologize for my use of hyperbole. 😉 But compared to the programming from 50 years ago, what we have today would have been considered pornographic–explicit sex scenes, vulgar language, and–worst of all–horrendous, graphic violence. That’s what I mean–that the tv shows on primetime, network television are not suitable for those who want to steer clear of indecency.

Agreed, don’t watch it. Problem is the cable companies–they bundle channels into packages. Unfortunately, most companies don’t allow us to pick and choose the channels we want–something I would do, if I could.

If you dig into it, some of those channels are not being paid for by the consumer. The channel itself is paying the cable guy to carry it. For example, the Shopping Channel and the networks pay the cable guy to carry them. Other channels are bought by the cable company and cost is passed onto the consumer. I suspect EWTN is given free to the cable guy, and he uses it to attract customers.

Yes, the Catholic faith does attract many - those hurting, broken, searching …and why?
What a comfort it brings!! 🙂

EWTN is a channel worth watching, that’s for sure.

I am becoming ever more disgusted with what is offered on television – even more than before. Shows such as Family Guy, reality TV in general, even commercials. I’m constantly asking – do people actually think this is funny? entertaining? worth wasting time on?
As a guy who is actually pretty tolerant of fan service and non-family-friendly stuff, I actually have to agree with you. I absolutely loathe Family Guy. It’s nothing but a pathetic stand-up comic routine that perverts the power of animation with crude humor, pointlessness, and rotund unsightly characters typical of American ‘adult’ cartoons these days.

As far as reality TV shows go, the only ones I’ve found interesting (and even a bit educating) were Survivor and The Amazing Race. MTV trash like One Bad Trip and Wild Boyz on the other hand make me wanna hurl…

P.S.

However, for some reason, I found Pimp my Ride to be a pretty cool show even though I haven’t watched a lot of episodes.

Please don’t hate me… 😊

nydailynews.com:

Seth MacFarlane is finally spilling the secrets of “Family Guy” – including the fact that, yes, baby Stewie is gay.

“We had an episode that went all the way to the script phase in which Stewie does come out,” MacFarlane, the show’s creator, says in the September issue of Playboy magazine. "It had to do with the harassment he took from other kids at school. He ends up going back in time to prevent a passage in Leviticus from being written: ‘Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind. It is an abomination.’

Wow, that is decency for you. And don’t give me that ‘If you don’t to watch it, turn it’ schtick.
What next, is MacFarlene going to produce a scene with one year old Stewie having relations with an adult male? Seriously, this guy is getting there, and then he can be outed for having NAMBLA sympathies.

There is absolutely no justfication for associating him with NAMBLA. You have no standing to complain about anything after that.

Many of the things on tv these days are every wrong. So since this happens, the only channels i watch are the disney channel and nick with my little brothers. Their shows are actually kind of funny. It grows on you.

Actually, there is justification. There’s no valid argument to use that a one year old child could announce themselves as homosexual, even in the context of an animated show, just for ‘entertainment’ reasons. This is the Kinsey way of thinking. I have seen some of the sexually deviant displays on Family Guy.

The argument stands.

Nonsense. There is no justification for associating the man with NAMBLA. Is that what you consider the Catholic way? Is that what Catholicism teaches? If you think it is, you dishonor Catholicism and you dishonor millions of Catholics who have gone before you. They are far better than that.

I call them like I see them. MacFarlane is a deviant that has no problem producing the foulest and some of the most offensive show themes that run consistent with what a predator would take delight in. It’s not about being politically correct. Elements of bestiality, homosexuality, and others are common in the series.

Being Catholic doesn’t imply that a person should beat around the bush about such ‘sensitive’ topics. He adds to the decay of society in it’s normalization of social evils.

I don’t know, some of the commercials are pretty funny.

Some of the shows on Disney’s and Nick’s are actually not as family-friendly as some people would have us believed. Have you seen Drake and Josh? What kind of message are kids getting if they constantly see the obnoxious little sister as charming and the “good boy” Josh as a loser? Not to mention the number of random girls that Drake must have had kissed on the show when he barely knows them. This might be funny if Drake was older than a teen and if this was a show for adults, but as it is it’s just disturbing.

I do not watch much TV. Maybe 30 minutes a month. But that will change because I am ready for some FOOTBALL!!!

As to the earlier references to NAMBLA, it is an organization that has no reason to exist other than to foster the attitude that raping children is okay.

I used to like watching Touched By An Angel. I really liked it, but it was cancelled. I also like Extreme Makeover, home edition. Those shows always make me cry. I usually watch the History, Discovery channels, Animal Planet, nat Geo, EWTN, and children-oriented channels. also like food network.

EWTN and Food Network are my favorites so far. I learned how to cook more watching food network!! My brother lived in Manhattan and moved to Baltimore to attend Johns Hopkins for his doctorates and he has passed by Charm City cakes whom the owner has his tv show on Food TV called Ace of Cakes. I like kid oriented stuff too. I am so picky, because I am always thinking about what my kids don’t need to see.

Reality shows don’t seem so reality(ish) to me. When I used to watch stuff like that, I felt more unhappy afterwards and felt like I was judging my appearance more because of what I would see. When I stopped watching all of that stuff the better I felt about myself. There is nothing positive about many of these shows on tv. It seems to slowly become a waste land of negative stuff. 😦

May God Bless you abundantly:highprayer:
