Anglican married man becomes catholic priest

Even Peter had a mother-in-law, although there’s a question as to whether he had a wife at the time.

I used to attend a church where the pastor was an Anglican convert. It was a little jarring the first time he said in a homily, “I was talking to my wife…!” But he was really terrific, and we were lucky to have him.

It is not stricktly necessary that, in order for a man to be ordained validly, he be unmarried, because in the eastern tradition married men may be ordained, and of course sometimes former Anglican ministers are ordained. Now that I think about it, I’m not sure why exactly they allow former Anglican mi is tears to be ordained sometimes.

The practice is mostly a discipline, not a dogma with no exceptions allowed. In fact, I’m pretty sure the Eastern Catholics do permit married men as standard practice, though I’m not sure if they’re at all discouraged.

Not discouraged at all, save in the US from the early 20th century until the recent rebuke of the despicable cum data fuerit by Frances, by which he “granted” facilities that were not his predecessors’ to have taken in the first place.

Today, it’s “merely” practical matters of handling the situation.

The child of the married priest at another EC parish goes to the preschool at our parish. . .

Married men can be ordained, but ordained men cannot marry. There is also a long and ancient tradition of even married clergy choosing continence or it being required of them if they chose to be ordained (this required the consent of their spouses, of course).
