Hey Guys,
I have been researching and am looking to attend an Anglican Use mass here is Houston at Our Lady of Walsingham. I was wondering what experiences and thoughts any of you had if you’ve attended one of these masses. Thanks guys, it’s always great to hear from y’all.

I attended Holy Mass on Sunday there, near the beginning of Lent during 2003. Simply put: it was beautiful and faith-inspiring.

If indeed either the “Anglican Rite within the Roman Church” or the su iuris “Anglican Catholic Church” becomes a reality in the next few years (see threads on this site which refer to the “Traditional Anglican Communion,” or TAC), there will soon after result a “giant sucking sound” as many of the moderately to heavily traditional Latin Rite Catholics (that is, those who have the option to do so, e.g. those in larger cities within the USA) take refuge in these new theologically conservative and liturgically sensible parishes.

A great number of “inbound converts” from conservative Evangelicism and mainline Protestantism would probably choose that option too over the Latin Rite parishes in the first-world, the majority of which have been decimated by the so-called “progressives” among the clergy, laity and religious.

This could actually result in a rather ugly high-church, low-church split among English-speaking Catholics in the Western Catholic Church. But I have a feeling that Pope Benedict XVI may be willing to go ahead even if such was certain given the terrible stagnation in the English-speaking parishes throughout the world. In other words, the “shake up” might actually help prompt, even accelerate, a reform in the English-speaking Roman Rite parishes and dioceses as they exist today.

For those who can’t attend the Anglican Use liturgy in person, I highly recommend the following video on DVD (I purchased and watched it even after attending in person):

See and Hear the Anglican Use Liturgy in all its Beauty!

In the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

Wow! I didn’t even think to conceive such an effect resulting from this. I hope to attend the high mass tomorrow and I think it will definitely open my eyes and show me that there is still sacrality somewhere. I’ve heard ICEL is getting more support from bishops and I truly hope they can produce something that isn’t so kumbaya. If Benedict allows this High Church regime, then it will definitely split the Church. I just think with all his writings about the liturgy that he has something up his sleeve. Liturgical abuse is getting out of hand, and illicit masses are becoming the accepted norm. Protestantism’s individual view of how a local church can have its own culture and tradition is spreading like wildfire and Benedict is going to have to land the blow sometime.

Anyway, it’s cool that you have .Mac, a Catholic Machead, now that’s something I like to see My email by the way is austinbond@mac.com

Wow! This sounds really cool!

I see from the link to other Anglican-use parishes that there are only a handful of parishes out there using this form of liturgy. It would be great to see this spread to other diocese throughout the the States.

Ok, I’m kinda jealous. I’m married to an Anglican, and I’ve been praying for the union of the Anglican Communion to the Catholic Church. This liturgy would be wonderful in my situation, for my husband, tho he doesn’t mind going to Mass with me, is constantly saying to me how similiar the services he attended in the Anglican church were to the Catholic Masses. He’s been kind of indifferent, tho, in converting to Catholicism, though our son is being raised in the Faith. If we had this liturgy in our diocese, it would serve as a wonderful way for us to share worship together, and maybe help him along with his decision to convert. (I try not to push it, though, since I know that only through God and the Holy Spirit can he come to know the truth.)

Thanks for letting me gush about this!

😃 :tiphat:

Well, I went to the Anglican Use parish in town today. It was definitely interesting but I recognize that it is totally not my tradition. I’m sort of happy to have the good 'ol Latin Rite when it isn’t swarming with liturgical abuse. I’m not so sure about the whole High Church idea anymore. It would take time to get used to all the Anglican stuff. I think that the English mass will be absolutely beautiful after ICEL gets done. There is pretty much a rite for everyone in the Church but mine is still the Latin rite 😉
