I hope that I have gone some way to show that it’s not as simple as we thought
OK. One more time (and frankly, for the last time).

That particular moment in the Mass is the moment for the distribution/reception of Holy Communion. That’s what happens at that moment.

It’s that simple. It is not the moment for blessings. It is not the “people come up for a blessing” part of the Mass. The blessing is done at the conclusion of Mass, when everyone receives a blessing.

There is a time for Communion, and there is a time for blessing.

Just as there is a proper time in the Mass for proclaiming the Gospel and a proper time for the Gloria, there is a proper time for each and every element of the Mass. Just as it would be wrong to proclaim the Gospel in between the Our Father and the Lamb of God, it is wrong to impart individual blessings during the time for Communion. The Church decides the order (meaning the time sequence) for the Mass. This proper order is not something subject to the whims of individuals. Each element of the Mass has its proper place. That really is a very simple concept, that does not require a lot of explanation.

What you’ve shown is that there are priests who are willing to violate the principles and norms of the Mass. You haven’t shown that doing so is legitimate.

I’m done here.

I have shown that the Bishops’ conference in England and Wales views this differently. Out of respect for the office of Bishop and with due deference to their Apostolic succession I will not say that they are violating the principles or norms of the Mass. They clearly do not think so.
