Hello, all. I’m something of an open theist who was raised in oddly charismatic/fundamentalist Anglican environment. I was confirmed in this tradition when I was 13, but not really out of any choice of my own.

What’s always bothered me is how the churches I was raised in tried to downplay or cover any similarity or tradition we shared with Catholicism. I didn’t learn we could go to confession or pray the rosary until I was in college. It piqued my interest enough to take a Catholic theology class, and I’ve been searching ever since.

My question is how the Catholic Church views Anglicans/Episcopalians. Some Catholic priests have allowed me to take communion and others have shared that they fear for my soul. I’m familiar with the history behind it all, but fuzzy on what our status is today. Thoughts?

The Anglican Chuch and the Catholic Church are not in communion with each other, and Anglicans should not be receiving Communion in the Catholic Church, and Catholics should not be receiving Communion in an Anglican church. A Catholic priest should not be giving Communion to you.

If, however, you should decide to become a Catholic, your Baptism would be considered valid and you would not be re-Baptized, but you would need to be Confirmed in the Catholic Church.
