I wouldn’t interpret it in a negative light. The bridal couple gets to choose who they want and you don’t know the reason they didn’t choose you. Maybe they feel closer to the other in-law. Not knowing the situation, maybe they just needed to balance out the numbers to get an equal amount of women and men in the wedding party. Could be anything. When I was getting married, there was all kinds of pressure to include other people like the 12 yr old cousin that a only saw a few times a year. I didn’t want any more than the few I had selected so she was out. Of course, the husband’s sisters could have been offended that I only picked one of them but we were close in age and felt connected to the one that was chosen. That’s all there was to it.
