Animals go to heaven?

He never said that and the story actually comes from one of those claiming to give human stature to the rest of the animal kingdom advocating the elimination of meat and dairy products.
This posture is totally abiblical it has no historical support and furthermore discards a fundamental truth of our own biology, Namely we are primordially animals of a higher order and we are omnivores.

If nature (GOD) wanted for us to survive on vegetation alone we would be equipped to do so I would think.
That is we would have teeth’s suitable to ruminate vegetation and we would also have a digestive system perfectly adapted to survive on a diet made exclusively from vegetables.

However since this is NOT the case any attempt to convince us that we should forego using meat and product from the animal kingdom fly in the face of the evidence.

And since in the Bible GOD commands us to eat meat, I for one will continue to do so,
Now neither the Pope nor anyone else barring a private revelation from Jesus Himself have ever declared whether either in the afterlife or in the world that is to come after the general resurrection animals will be a part of it. It is open to personal speculation.

a) The article is entirely wrong regarding the doctrinal authority of encyclicals.

b) The Pope did not say what the article purports that he said. The article doesn’t substantiate its claim. The quotes do not say what the article claims.

Nothing to see here.
 
Some say that their pets do go to heaven. For example, one Catholic cardinal told children that there was a heaven for cats. But I think that most theologians will say no.

This is true, in modern times, humans NEED to eat meat, or at least take a supplement, and since our bodies are equipped in this way to eat meat, we can assume we can…BUT, in the OT, when God clearly told them to eat only green things, I wonder if their bodies were different…seems like if God gave an order like that, their bodies would be adequately equipped to abide by his rule…right?
 
This question has been asked more than a few times on CAF.
There are some folks who say yes, others who say no.
The argument has gotten pretty heated in the past.
Hope this thread doesn’t go there…sometimes beyond rudeness.
 
Well, as a vegetarian for 15 years, I would debate that humans NEED to eat meat. And could someone point me to the scripture that God says we MUST? I know St. Paul says the opposite (i.e., don’t criticize those who eat only plants).

As for pets in heaven, I heard a CA podcast (with Jimmy Akins, I think?) that discussed this very subject with a caller. The gist of the response, if memory serves: Since there’s nothing in the Bible one way or another, it’s possible that God would allow pets if for no other reason than to make us happy. 😃

Just food for thought. 😉

Genesis Chapter 9:3
And everything that moves and lives will be food for you. Just as with the edible plants, I have delivered them all to you,

Genesis Chapter 11
11:1 And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying: 11:2 Say to the sons of Israel: These are the animals that you ought to eat out of all the living things of the earth.

Isaiah Chapter 22:13
But behold: gladness and rejoicing, the killing of calves and the slaughter of rams, the eating of meat and the drinking of wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die.”\

Exodus Chapter 21
21:33 If a man digs or opens a cistern, and does not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls into it,
21:34 then the owner of the cistern shall repay the price of the beasts, and what is dead will belong to him.
21:35 If the ox of a stranger wounds the ox of another, and it has died, then they shall sell the live ox and divide the price, but the carcass of the dead one they shall distribute between them.
21:36 But if he knew that his ox had pushed with its horns, yesterday and the day before, and its owner did not confine it, then he shall repay an ox for an ox, and he will receive the whole carcass.”

Leviticus 11:7-8
And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. You shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.

God does not say we must eat meat but rather he says we may eat meat if we want.
Do we need to eat meat? No, but it tastes great. There is nothing like a big juicy steak.
 
None of this matters. Whether man needs to eat meat doesn’t matter.

The article says that the Pope stated in his encyclical as a matter of dogma that animals go to heaven. That isn’t in the encyclical. Not even close.

The author of the article doesn’t know what he is talking about and the New York Daily News editorial staff ought to fired for printing a story which references a document which the author obviously hasn’t read.
