Good morning CAF! My wedding anniversary is coming up, and I’m very excited. We’ve both been so stressed out and busy that to celebrate we’re packing up the dog, driving a few hours out of the city, and just sitting in the woods chatting over some good food while we watch the birds land and take off from the lake.

We don’t usually do gifts for anniversaries or V-Day. We like to put the money towards celebratory road trips, camping, and other out of the house adventures. But this year, I really want to surprise him either with a unique gift, a fun experience, or something similar. Nothing big and flashy, just a simple surprise that no one would guess. I know, I’m asking for the world here.😃

So ladies, what are some of the best romantic, thoughtful, or playful surprises you have up your sleeve? And guys, other than a good meal or knitting (both have become almost cliche from me to him, though he always really appreciates both), what are some interesting ways a woman could let you know that you’re her universe?

That was only quasi- a joke. I got my DH a drone and he loved it. but he’s into that stuff. it’s fun to fly it around over our property looking at stuff from an aerial view

Lots of affordable and really unique gifts on Etsy.

Tablet stands, unique bottle openers, chopping boards with your initial engraved, etc.

My colleague just adopted a family of 3 into her existing family of three.
I ordered a photo print of a bird’s nest where each of there names are written on white eggs in the nest. She loved it, her social worker loved it, and the kids cried when they saw it. Her husband wants one for his office.
They have lots of great items.

What are his interests?

What do you mean by “big and flashy”?

What’s a rough budget for this?

I have a few ideas for fun experiences.😉

I agree about Etsy.com for unique gifts.

When husband and I were courting I ordered on Etsy a special wood key chain with some lyrics of one of our songs engraved in it and our names. Also, his user picture and mine in CAF is of our wedding cake dolls we ordered in Etsy. They have many customizable stuff.

Our anniversary is today and we decided to spend our money doing stuff. The hard part was deciding whether to do stuff with our kids or without them. We ended up compromising. We’re going out to an early dinner without the kids and then we’re picking them up and taking them downtown for a sunset carriage ride and a romp in the City Gardens.

I think a trip is a great idea though. Even if you just go to a hotel, float in the hot tub, and have a nice breakfast in the morning, you have hours of bonding time without having to clean up and do details around the house. I love getting away for that reason.

Well happy anniversary to you and Mr. Allegra! 🙂

I guess hot air balloons are out of season, or that would be a cool surprise! What about spelunking? You could get some friends to go into the cave ahead of time and fill it up with candles and set the table?

I don’t think they are out of season, are they?

I did that for when I proposed, and that was in May.

Is his name by chance Andante?

I didn’t think they worked as well in the heat. Usually you only see them in the fall around here.

Well, for me it’s usually something practical, yet nice. I always love to get cuff-links, a nice tie or shirt, or maybe some aftershave.

Though my better-half knows that what I really love is kayaking gear or outdoors accessories for kayaking/cycling.

So I guess if there’s something (sports etc.) he’s really interested in, you could find out if he needs some item of gear and get it for him. Or even take him to a sporting event that he’d like.
