I am a faithful Catholic and a widow of almost 5 years.

I met a wonderful man about a year ago and we are starting to talk about marriage. However…He was married before and he is not Catholic, he is Methodist.
Though I have made a weekly date night for us going to Catholic Bible study together.
I explained to hm that I could not consider marriage without him receiving an annulment from the Catholic Church.

Today we were discussing how the process works, what he has to do and when.
I pulled up the forms on line and we discussed the questions so he would not be embarrassed when he goes to speak to the parish priest.
As I was reading the questions to him. I got a surprise.
When I asked if either he or his ex wife had been married before he said Yes… He said She was married and divorced before I met her. She is also not a catholic. She belongs to the Moravian church.

So now what? Does he file for an annulment, lack of form, nothing, what?

Another problem, he believes he was baptized but the doesn’t know when or where as his father was killed in a car accident, when he was six months old. How family was in transition moving from California to Texas at the time.
He said his mother was Baptist and he is sure he and his older brothers were baptized.

He should speak with your pastor. It is possible, based on the facts you’ve presented, that his marriage was invalid due to a prior bond on the part of his ex-wife.

He should speak to your pastor. His marital situation will need to be investigated. It could be a Ligamen case (prior bond) since his ex was previously married— but he will require evidence. If he can’t go the Ligamen route, then he can look at a decree of nullity in other grounds if there are any. Dissolution of the bond would be an option if either party were unbaptized.
