Hello.
I’m in the process of RCIA. I am married to a catholic (a civil ceremony) and both my Daughters are baptised Catholic.

I was married previously to a Northern Irish Protostant we divorced in 2001. I have now submitted my annulment application along with letters from witnesses to the state and circumstances of this marriage, I have also submitted a letter from the police confirming an incident with my ex-husband where threatened to kill me.

I have had no contact with my ex husband for 9 years although I hear from people who hear from other people that he is very bitter about the divorce. I am very concerned that through the annulment process he will be made aware of my whereabouts and my life with my new Husband and our Daughters (I had no children with my ex husband)

Can the annulment process go ahead without my ex husband having any detail about me and my life as it is now. I know he will not co-operate especially with him being a protostant who grew up in Belfast through the 1970s and 1980s.

Thank you
Michelle

Your ex will need to be contacted by the diocese, they will ask (if they have not already) yo uto provide them with any contact information you may have for you ex so they can make every attempt to contact him. They will not provide your ex with any contact information on you nor will they require direct contact between you and your ex.

Yes. They will not give him any info about you. They will simply attempt to notify him that you are pursuing the annulment and give him a certain length of time to respond to the questionnaire. He does not need to respond for things to proceed.

You can always bring this up to the Tribunal office and/or your parish priest and I’m sure they will be able to put your mind at ease about the process.
