I am currently waiting on my boyfriend’s annulment to go through in order for us to get married…If you have went through one, how long did it take?

Call and ask your tribunal. The length of time it takes varries from dioceses to diocese, case to case and even how many cases they are dealing with at a time.

I’ll mention my wife’s here as mine, since (obviously) hers affected me.

Diocese of Belleville, less than six months, $250. Also done in a great and caring fashion.

Diocese of Richmond, free, less than six months (documentary process). In our diocese, formal case annulments are also free.

It is made to sound here as if anullments are rarely refused and it is just a process like divorce. I do of course wish the best for those involved.

Working with the RCIA I have waited through a lot of these. The time varies by case. Some have been as little as a month, a couple took five years.

Try to get all required documentation in as quickly as possible. If witnesses are involved try to get them to respond as rapidly as possible. The Tribunal is overloaded. They don’t follow up on missing paperwork; they just leave it pending while they work on the cases that are ready.

Ask questions of the Tribunal. Occasionally check to see if anything is holding it up.

I want to encourage you to follow this advice. We were witnesses. The paper work arrived about 2 weeks before a major move (sold our house, moving on our own, etc.) Since we were in the middle of packing boxes, etc., the paperwork was put aside to do after the move. Well, after the move, we had a a couple of traumatic accidents and we forgot all about the paperwork. When we were reminded, we did it immediately.

We were the ones responsible for slowing down the process. We regret that immeasurably. However, the timing for the arrival of the paperwork was awful. We had been asked atleast a year prior to this, so it took us by surprise when it arrived when it did. Also, since it had taken so long to arrive, we really didn’t think too much about putting it aside for a few weeks. (But that is when we forgot!!)

Urge the witnesses to be prompt!!
