Anonymous posting

Here’s something that I was thinking about. Say you’re a regular poster on here. Or, you’re a poster that has friends or family members who knows your screen name. Is it sinful to create another account and post anonymously? One part of me says it is because you are being deceptive. The other part of me says it’s okay because if you post about, for example, a problem with your brother or your friend you could be gossiping. What do you guys and gals think?
 
Like your real name is Gavin52? I don’t see anything wrong with creating an alter ego here. As long as you don’t start having conversations with yourself. 🙂
 
I see no problem with creating another name. I haven’t done it yet but I’ve thought about it. Sometimes you really want to be anonymous. Everybody here understand that.
 
Haha. 🙂 I do see you’re point. Someone can create multiple anonymous accounts and start talknig to themselves trying to promote their point. That’s not right.

I am more curious as to, to use another example, say you have a personal problem and there are people on the boards that know you personally. Not wanting to let them know about the problem you create another account and post. Those people you know happen to reply to the post and you reply, and so on and on. They don’t know they are talking to you yet you see them everyday. It’s that really a problem?

I was okay until you got to the “you see them everyday part.” Now I think you run the risk of deliberate deception as they might reveal intimate details thinking they’re talking to a complete stranger. In a case like that, I wouldn’t use this forum to ask my question.

It depends. If you are using a second account to attack another poster or post things that you wouldn’t have the courage to post if you weren’t anonymous … then I think it’s wrong.

If you create another account so you can ask advice about a sensitive or embarrassing topic, then it’s fine.

Can go both ways.
 
It basically comes down to the intent. It could be wrong in some cases but okay in others.
 
That’s what I’ve been doing. 😃 I only have one account and I don’t know if I know anybody on here, but I wanted to be able to share a part of me that I’m not comfortable sharing with everybody. I wanted to be able to ask embarrassing questions without turning bright red for weeks and to admit things in my life that I struggle with without them being forever attached to my name. In a way, having annonymity makes you more open.

And I talk to myself all the time! Just not on the computer… :rolleyes:
