Hi all. I recently expressed a certain degree of disappointment w.r.t. Fr. James Martin’s response to the Nashville Statement (in the thread devote to said response).

But I’m glad to say that this response from Br. Andre Marie says many of the very things I had hoped to see in Fr. Martin’s response.

Yes, that was very good, thank you for posting it.
He did mention the absence of anything on contraception in the statement - which is, I believe, a point you raised elsewhere. An important point, I’d say. But still pretty good as far as it went.

Maybe Catholic leaders should reach out and give Evangelical leaders a bit of push on contraception. Some may not care but there are some who do. Some may just pretend not to care because of the Catholic label.
Albert Mohler could be labelled anti-Catholic by some here but not anti-Catholic enough to see value in Humanae Vitae. Some may find this interesting:

If most of the ‘leaders’ in conservative/evangelical Protestantism would recognize of the problems with contraception, that would be a major step. Moving a step closer to pre-1930 would be even better news.

Personally, I spent quite a lot of time, out of the time that I’ve been on CAF, conversing with Evangelical Protestants. (Not you personally so much, it was mostly before you joined the forum.)

In any case, w.r.t. your post I would say: we can certainly hope.

I agree with pretty much everything, except for this:
, and in opposition to the LGBTQ attempts to redefine human sexuality.
The LGBTQ folks could not do all of this alone, and a few (maybe more) actually oppose a lot of this and are more conservative/orthodox on the issues than some straight Christians.

It’s really important for folks to realize that a lot of this has been pushed forward by virtue-signaling straights. If you talk to someone on-line about it who is against Catholic teaching on the matter on any given news site, chances are, you are talking to a straight person.

Also, Christians have really missed the boat on outreach to the LGBTQ folks, and undoubtedly that’s part of the reason why a lot of them (but again not all) go along with the secular narrative.
