Another HHS Mandate Thread

As someone who has recently become involved with debating this current issue with many folks who drastically disagree with the Church’s position on this matter, one argument seems to come up a lot. I don’t remember seeing this particular topic, so I hope I’m not repeating. I’ve basically been told that it’s just insurance, and carrying insurance for birth control doesn’t involve me in the birth control industry. I’ve been told that “insurance is insurance.” I suppose they were meaning that it isn’t a personal matter, and I shouldn’t have a problem with it.

My question is what is our culpability as individuals in carrying health insurance which includes birth control coverage? also

What is the culpability of the Church in providing such insurance to it’s employees? Would the evil of birth control outweigh the evil of denying employees health insurance? For example, a Church employee has a medical condition which they could not afford to treat without medical insurance. If the laws become so binding that the Church drops insurance coverage for its employees in order to follow the teachings on birth control, this person (who for the sake of this example will not violate the Church’s teaching by using BC) could possibly die without their insurance.

I am well aware of the other issues involved here, but I’m just wondering about this specifically.

Paying for insurance mandated to provide birth control is like being mandated to get a hit man. It’s true you aren’t personally DOING the crime, but it’s still your money and actions that get it done.
