I am a layman, who is not obliged to the recitation of the Liturgy of the Hours, although I often do so out of devotion.

When I was confirmed on 25 October 1981, it was the Feast of the 40 English Martyrs, a national feast in the UK honouring 40 canonised martyrs from the time of the English Reformation. But this feast no longer seems to be observed, it’s not on my diocesan ordo and I can’t find it anywhere else. Many of the English saints now have their own individual feast days. Many of these only seem to be celebrated in a specific diocese. For example, tomorrow, 28 May, is the feast of Blessed Margaret Pole, but this isn’t in the Ordo for my diocese and on old EF missal indicates it was only ever celebrated in a couple of dioceses.

If I wished to recite the LotH in honour of a specific Saint or Blessed on their Feast day, even if they’re not officially commemorated in my diocese, should I be OK to do that?

The feast has been moved to 4 May along with other English martyrs:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forty_Martyrs_of_England_and_Wales

They are in the Roman Martyrology for May 4th. I have a copy of the most recent Martyrology and they’re in there on that date.

It is permissible to celebrate any saint(s) in the Roman Martyrology even if they don’t have any feast day on your local calendar or the General Roman Calendar.

For a memorial you’d celebrate using the hymn, readings, responsory, gospel canticle antiphon and intercessions from the Common of Several Martyrs. If you don’t know the collect for these martyrs you use the ones from the Common. The psalmody would be of the day.

For the Office of Readings, the hymn and second reading would be from the Common of Several Martyrs, the first reading would be of the day. The collect as above. At the minor hours and Compline, everything is of the normal day.
