I was baptized Episcopal, my mother converted to Catholic and I made my Penace and 1st Holy Communion in the Catholic church, I refused my Conformation and left the church when I was 12 and joined an Evangelical Free church, some years later I married my husband of 10 years and have returned to the CatholicChurch (2 years ago)… anyway I’m wondering if my marriage is valid?

your post does not say if you were married “in the church”. I’m guessing not, since you only retuned 2 years ago.

Is your husband Catholic?

no he’s not Catholic…I wasn’t married in the Catholic Church…

Hummm, not sure if I know the best answer for this one. Usually to get married in the Catholic Church you need to have been Confirmed. Your marriage is recognized but may need a convalidation. You really should ask this to your priest directly. This is a trciky one.
I look forward to other posters on this one…

You should make an appointment to talk with your priest about this. If it turns out you want to, and are free to, convalidate your marriage then that also would begin with him. He should be entirely able to review all the issues with you, and hopefully in a pastoral way 🙂 Also the topic of your Confirmation he can address, as could the Director of Religious Education for your parish.

Don’t be afraid to call him. He is there to assist in this. (Another option is to contact the Chancery/Diocese office. They will likely refer you back to your parish priest, tho they may also answer some questions.)

Blessings.

One of the rights of catecheumens is the right to be married in the Church and have a Christian burial. They are not even Baptized yet, nor confirmed, obviously.

There are so many different issues that come up which are best systematically covered by the priest who knows exactly all that needs considering.

For example (not asking about this situation): Was the husband ever married prior to this marriage? Was he baptized or unbaptized at the time of the prior marriage? It can go on and on… 🙂

Also, you may want to address with your pastor the fact that you apparently formally left the Catholic Church prior to your marriage.

“Refusing” Confirmation and moving on to another faith community doesn’t constitute formally leaving the church. It’s likely more complicated than that. At minimum a letter to the local ordinary, bishop, is one element of the process. Again, this is something the priest will be familiar with. Her priest can figure out what applies for andray68
