Would it be permissible to use NFP to prevent having children for at least part of your marriage if you opt to adopt instead of having any more biological children?

Would it be permissible to use it to completely prevent having children if you intend to adopt instead?

Thanks in advance.

I would think not on both counts but you might want to ask the AAA forum. You must have a grave reason to use NFP. While the choice to adopt is noble, it would be a situation you chose, not one that fell on you.

I think the above answer is mostly correct, but the best answer is that you should consult with a priest. If the reason you are planning on adopting instead of having kids naturally is because for you having kids naturally could be dangerous (i.e. genetic predisposition to passing on major defects, physical problems with you, etc.) then using NFP to prevent pregnancy at all times COULD be suggested. If the reason is for “selfish reasons” like you don’t want to put on the pregnancy weight or take the time off from work, spend the money, etc. it COULD be considered inappropriate.

As I said earlier, the best thing is to talk over your exact situation with a priest, also make sure it is a priest that is faithful to the church’s teachings.

Using a permanent method (i.e. getting your tubes tied) to prevent pregnancy is not allowed.

It would actually depend on the reasons you had for not wanting to have children. If it would be dangerous for the woman to go through a pregnancy then it could be justified. NFP is ok for married couples as long as they have serious reasons for not wanting to have children.
