Another one of those "little things"

I once started a thread about little things that I feel are more than coincidences in my life, and another nice thing happened for me this morning that I feel was special and one of those things that “happened for a reason.” It all started early this morning. I had planned to go to the 9:00 Easter morning service at my church, but while I was in the shower, I felt afraid again that I would be in tears. After my shower, while I was dressing into the clothes I had laid out to wear (a white dress and pearly white slipon shoes) I made the decision that I couldn’t go and would stay home. I felt awful, especially it being Easter, but I was once again letting my fear take over me. I told my mother (who I have said before lives with me in my little house) that I wouldn’t be going. She doesn’t know what I’ve gone through with the tears and all, and I just told her that I didn’t feel up to going this morning afterall and would just stay home. About half an hour later, my mother asked me if I would feel up to going to the later service, which was at 11:00. I had started to say no, but she gently tried to convince me, and said I would feel better if I did and that she knows I wouldn’t want to miss Easter morning Mass. I knew this too, yet my fear of tears were still gnawing at me, until at last she convinced me that I should go. My guilt tugged at my heart, and I knew I would really be disappointing Jesus if I didn’t go on the day of celebration of His resurrection. I brought myself to go. When I arrived at the church, I no sooner came up the steps leading into the sanctuary, when I saw my neighbor, a nice elderly lady who lives only two houses up the street from me. She is a warm little Polish lady, and she came up to me right away, hugged me, said Happy Easter, and I told her that I thought she’d said she was going to the earlier service. She laughingly told me she’d overslept, and asked me if she could sit with me. I told her of course, and she said, “Let’s go in and pray!” I went with her, and walked all the way down the aisle to the front row, the only place open. The church was beautifully decorated with yellow and white flowers, candles, and plants. I sat with her, and she told me I looked pretty and that she loved my little white dress and shoes, and how nice it was to sit with me. I visited quietly with her for a while before the service started. I was pretty much fine, except for a few instances here and there of feeling the threat of tears, but I was quickly able to ward them off. I was able to sing, listen to the readings and sermon and songs, without going crazy, and I did go up for Communion. When I returned to my place and knelt, I shut my eyes, as I always do, and felt very deeply, knowing I had just received Jesus. That moment is always extremely deeply special for me, and nothing I’ve ever experienced on earth comes close to that feeling. The service was lovely, and Halina (my neighbor lady) said how beautiful everything was and that it was a nice Mass. After this, I had felt very glad that I went, and had a much lighter heart than I had earlier that morning when the darkness was threatening to keep me home once again. I only went through about three Kleenexes, nothing at all like what I usually go through, and I was surprised that I was even fine during the offertory song “Baptized In Water” when the priest was proceeding up the aisle sprinkling everyone with Holy Water, and droplets of the water suddenly flicked onto the pages of the book I was holding, and gently sprinkled me.
It was just a special morning for me, and I almost didn’t go at all. I feel it was all just too much to be mere coincidence that something kept me from going to the earlier service, and my neighbor lady, who had also planned on going earlier, had overslept. I feel we were brought together at the same time, for a special reason, to share Easter morning Mass. This, I feel, has at last cured me of my fear of morning Mass and tears.
Just wanted to share. Hope you all had just as special of an Easter!

We knew you could do it! There is nothing wrong with a few tears at mass. We have all done it for one reason or another. Peace.

I am touched by your story. I am so very happy for you that you made it to Mass and had a neighbor with you to share the special beauty of the Easter Mass.

God bless,

Mary.

Thankyou, Rose, MaryEstelle, and MaryT! I had a beautiful Easter.

Let us know how you go next Sunday, Divine Mercy Sunday. Can you go to Mass with that lovely neighbor?

Yes, consider this. If it’s doable, offer to drive her or walk with her. This might help with the anxiety you feel. Mine is a completely different scenario but I have served as the DD for friends a few times. I don’t like going to bars, being in crowds but give me a “job” and my focus changes. Accompanying your elderly neighbor will help both of you arrive safely to Mass and back home and it seems like she really appreciated not sitting alone. It could be an ongoing blessing for you both.

And thank you for sharing this; I’m so happy for you!

I’ll let you know. I’ll be going in the morning again this week. And thankyou, on behalf of my neighborlady! She is lovely, and I’ve known her for years. Sometimes, I have gone with her to the evening service, which is a later one, and I usually go to the earlier Vigil, but we’ll see. It was special for Easter, and I think she has another lady she goes with. She’s in her nineties, and spry as ever, still loves to garden, drives herself around, and goes out with her girlfriends a few days a week to have coffee!

Thankyou for your kind words. I was very happy to share. It is a good idea to think about going with my neighbor lady, at least when I have to go in the morning. I’m glad she lives only two houses away from me:)🙂

I went to church this morning, alone, and everything was fine. I honestly feel that, little by little, I’m getting better. There are still moments of starting to tear up, but now, as not like before, I can right away control it. I no longer feel I’m “going crazy,” as I said before. I believe, for the last two Sundays now, I’ve finally conquered this. Not fully, but pretty well enough that I’m no longer afraid.

Thanks, Mary! I felt so light, these last two Sundays, having known I went to church. It also must have helped that both days were balmy and bright.
