Another question for Muslims

I am curious about the Kaaba, the “black stone” and their signifigance to Islam. Despite some research these items remain mysterious and strangely secretive to me.

I don’t mean any disrespect, but placing reverence on a meteorite appears contradictory to some Islamic beliefs? (forgive my ignorance if I appear accusatory, I would like to avoid anger on this thread)

Any informed insight for a curious Catholic?

The Kaaba is a Mosque (which is now inside an even larger Mosque) which believe was built by Abraham (as), though it has been destroyed numerous times and later rebuilt, the last time it was rebuilt was just before Muhammad (saaw) was born. It’s used as a ‘compass’ of sorts when Muslims perform their ritual worship, similar to how the Jews use Jerusalem.

The black stone that’s inside the Kaaba is just that, a stone. It isn’t really given any ‘reverence’ it’s merely an artifact since the Prophet himself had it put inside the Kaaba. One of the Prophet Muhammad’s closest companions said about it “I know that you are only a stone and you can neither bring benefit nor cause harm”.

And don’t worry, you don’t appear accusatory or disrespectful at all.

The Black stone is a stone. In Orthodox islam it is just a stone. It doesnt have any powers . It is just a part of the Buidlding of Al Kaba .

It was broken into many pieces at a point of time , what is the black stone today are fragments put togeather of it.

The black stone was taken away for a long time out of al kaba , it was later restored after 40 years or somthing . Still Muslims made pilgrimage as normal. Infact, the black stone doesnt constitute any mandatory part of Muslim pilgrimage. One can never see it or touch it or even ever hear about it and still be a great believer.

One thing also i would like to add, is that people shouldnt confuse teh kaba with the black stone.

The Kaba is a building made of bricks , probably have a greyish colour, it is covered with a black piece of fine cloth ( that is why many people think the kaba is a black box)

The black stone is a part of the walls of al kaba.

The kaba is the Place where Abhraham used to pray to God it is one of the three most holy sites as per Christain, Jews & Muslims
the Arab world was then totally Pagan.That very place was mecca for Pagan worship some 306 idols was worshiped in the same spot, The First thing that Prophet Mohd did after being enlightened & blessed by God was to destroy that tent & its idols.
It just a bldg that is covered in black muslin (cloth) protecting the site as holy place for worship

I dunno what the muslim do or why this is a christain view point…
