Another Question of Valid or Invalid Marriage

I guess I am a typical product of Protestantism…my husband and I have been married almost 12 years and have an 8 year old child together. He was married twice previously and has children by both marriages. I have been married once previously and have 1 child by my previous marriage. I was baptized Baptist at the age of 12 but he has never been baptized. I am wanting to be confirmed in the Catholic Church…he has no desire to do this for himself. We (my current husband and I) were married in a civil ceremony. What will the process be for my marriage to be considered valid? I have not talked with a priest as of yet…I found this site/forum while searching for answers on the internet. Thanks to anyone who can help…

You need to make an appointment with a priest or the specialist at your parish. They will know the right questions to ask you to be able to give you a good amswer. We are not specialists and do not know which information is important.

Please make an appointment with your pastor. We can only talk in generalities here.

The previous marriages will have to be examined, and freedom to marry will have to be determined. There are many variables, including baptismal status, prior marriages for the two of you and your former spouses, etc.

What you really need to do is sit down and do an interiew with the pastor. He can ask a series of questions that will then point you in the direction of “next steps”.

Take things one step at a time. Let the tribunal people guide you through. Don’t try to figure it out here on the internet.
