Can someone tell me what is a “graven image”? And what about the statues we have or the medals we wear? Someone told me they too are graven images and part of what is wrong with the Catholic church. Thanks again from this “revert” . You folks are wonderful.

👋 Kathy
the dictionary definition is this: an object of worship carved usually from wood or stone: IDOL

So by definition, we do not worship our saints or statues so they cannot by definition be graven images.

Most Christians wear a cross. Graven image just says object, it does not say whether or not it is a person or thing. Christians do not worship their cross. Nor do Catholic Christians worship Mary, any of the Saints or any statues make in their likeness. It is a way to remember and call to mind good examples of Christ or Christ Himself.

A fellow revert/convert,
Maria

We also pray to Mary and the Saints to intercede ono our behalf to Jesus for things - "Pary to Jesus for me that I may resist temptation, etc…
