Another Tolkien-LOTR question

Yes, but don’t you think that would cause more people to read the book? If the people who claimed they loved the movie got a glimpse of a particular character, don’t you think they would be curious who this is and where they fit into the story? I know I would, but I’m not sure about others.

For me, having seen the first movie cold, I think I would have been more confused than anything. There are so many characters being introduced as it was, had they brought in characters for only one scene, I would have felt even more lost. I likely would have left not knowing anything about Glorfindel OR Arwen. But that might just be me!

The movies are magnificent, but they cannot, by their nature, be as profound as the book. I would have liked to have seen the Scouring of the Shire - one of my favorite parts of the book. I would have preferred the movie to have shown the age differences between Frodo and Merry and Pippin. The class distinction between those three and Sam was nicely done, though. All of the actors, particularly Sean Astin, did a marvelous job portraying their characters. I did not like giving Treebeard’s lines to Galadriel at the beginning of the Fellowship of the Ring (movie).
