Just curious but are you a head hunter?

The only thing I would do differently is word it more appropriately. I really need to look at the whole picture. I know in the bottom of my heart had I agreed to learn the new task, I would have been setting myself up to have her over my shoulder for hours pushing my buttons. It would have been a great challenge to not blow my lid at heart.

Angie
It seems you allowed her to push different buttons with this conversation. When she said you are leaving soon-you said-not soon enough… I don’t think that this answer could be construed as a positive response.

Even though she backtracted about your attitude when you agreed that a negitive attitude is wrong—she meant you have one. She backtracked not to cause further conflict with you. She never would have brought this up otherwise.

She was giving you feedback, and softened it by saying she cared.

Now, that being said, I understand the frustration you must feel at being micro-managed. That is infuriating. If you find yourself with another manager who also micro-manages, I’d recommend you schedule a time-bound meeting for instruction in new tasks in your boss’ office, ideally with an agenda and preferably right before your boss has another meeting scheduled, then go perform the work independently in your office.
I have tried to schedule meetings with agendas and it just did not work out. This manager just does not follow a schedule, allows anyone who wants to interrupt, changes the topic etc. If she is on the way to another meeting her mind is elsewhere and her answers are obviously not well though out
That way, you get to put endpoints on the micromanaging, and your boss feels heard.
I don’t think this women ever feels heard. Often the monologues I have had to listen to concern other people’s duties and how she wants to handle things that have nothing to do with my responsibilities
Book a 5 or 10 minute meeting at the end of the day with your manager to check in with a status update. It will reassure your boss. A reassured micromanager will be more likely to get off your back.
There is another manager in this office I wanted to have a 5 minute chat or how to organize training the new girls. When I approached her and said ‘Can we take 5 minutes to discuss a plan’ she said ‘did that already’ and walked away

You have provided very good suggestions. Unfortunately, in this office, the culture does not accept these ideas
