Hey everyone. I have talked to Muslims in the past and they almost always make the claim that the New Testament is corrupt and that it has been changed so that it is no longer the same as when it was first written. How do we respond to such claims?

You respond, “prove it”.

Unless they can produce an original manuscript which is historically verifiable as authentic AND shows that it has distinctly different meaning from the New Testament as we understand it today, then their claims can be dismissed as mere assertions with no facts to back them.

Agree! 👍

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof.

May the blessings of Jesus Christ be upon them.

They always claim that BIble is corrupted without one shred of proof. Logic tends to be rather circular here. Few people I met put worth this “argument”-“it has to be corrupt because it has been copied time times and translated into different languages”. I could say same about their Quran-its been copied for centuries who is to say that its the same as the very original?
As first poster said, let them prove that NT is corrupted. I assure you they can’t

I always say- Mohammed sat in a cave and received the laws of God where as Jesus lived with the people and suffered for them- as He said -Love the Lord God with all your heart, mind and soul , and LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.

The Mohammedans believe that anyone that doesn’t follow Mohammadism should be either 1) converted by force, 2)enslaved or 3)killed.

yes, exactly. If you read how Mohammed received his “revelations”, its a clear indication that it was done by someone/something other than God. He was shaken and choked and thought he was going to die. At first he thought that he was attacked by demon and it was his wife, Khadija who convinced him that it was God talking to him.

I agree with asking them to prove that the New Testament is corrupted but do any of you know of any articles or anything that defend the reliability of the New Testament as we have it?

Since Mohammed was illiterate, the Koran was dictated to many different people. How do I know they took it down correctly in the original, and were not tempted to place their own meaning in the original? And, then, of course, it’s been copied and translated.

Are the translations of the Koran accurate since we don’t even know if the people he dictated to wrote his words down accurately – and Mohammed was not capable of checking that they were taking things down as he said them, and not editing?

Yes it is quite a statement to make.

So make sure that they provide evidence and proof that it was changed.

Also, its not necessarily them that should provide the proof. Its Mohammad. He was the one who made the claim, so its up to him to provide the proof. Since hes dead, that would mean we need to see the evidence he provided in the Quaran that the bible was changed. If there is none, then they have no reason to believe it.

The Muslim perception of Christianity is defective, in the first place.

However it happened historically, the Muslim understanding of Christianity is from the point of view of the Arian heresy – that Jesus was just a man, not God, and did not die on the cross.

So, with that preconception, they’d naturally believe that the Bible (NT in particular) is corrupt.

Faulty assumption leads to faulty conclusion.

I can’t think of the Catholic apologist of a century ago who described Islam as an external heresy of christianity. (who was this? can’t think of his name)

Muslims accept many Judeo/Christian beliefs, but (significantly) they seem to have rejected the inconvenient parts of both. That’s why it is a heresy. It grew up outside the synagogue or Church, that is why it is an external heresy.

On the following point, I may be confusing mormonism with Islam: I think both the Book of Mormon and the Quran have been re-written to resolve problems that were found in them.

Think about it, they are claiming our Scriptures were once pure and untainted and then corrupted, they can’t even name a date let alone be specific about what is corrupted, all of the sudden. What are they really saying here? Something that was once holy and divinely protected became corrupt. How? Men? Demons? So what they’re saying is evil overpowered good. They’re basically a cult of unprofessed Gnostics, stating evil overcame God’s will in Tradition and Scripture since Moses, and only when Mohammad came along did He finally get it straightened out. Who’s to say that corruption won’t happen again? Pure Gnosticism, plain and simple. To retreat from this position they either have to deny Hebrew/Greek Scriptures were never inspired by God to begin with and thus no corruption or give in completely and say all Scripture is untainted and inspired and become Christian. Gnostics have been the number one enemy of the Church since day one, and we’re still fighting them today.
