I’ve heard this being thrown at Catholicism, that is, from those who criticize the Pope and Bishops for wearing highly valuable stuff. We all know their intentions, but what is a good simple reply to that?

Depends on the source. If it’s protestants with an axe to grind, maybe ask them read out loud to you God’s instructions for creating the Ark of the Covenant, then go from there. 🙂

You might want to ask them specifics. About how they know they are valuable and how much it goes for on the open market. 😃
You will find the more you question them, there argument disintegrates.

I’ve yet to see a protestant church belonging to the type of denomination that would ask that sort of question, that wasn’t luxurious.

The story of the King, the guests, and the wedding garments comes to mind. 🙂

It’s not the bishops’ stuff; it’s stuff they wear to honor God. People give God their best.
