I think you misunderstand the “reach” of reason. Reason is a formal enterprise, it doesn’t provide the first principles. It merely unpacks them to arrive at what follows from them. Just as in computing, ‘garbage in garbage out’ applies. The so called “Age of Reason” forgot this and assumed that the presumptions of that age were unassailable, the current age with its focus on diversity and egalitarian first principles believes these are beyond dispute. As a result, “reason” arrives at rather bizarre conclusions.

At one time, reductio ad absurdum would have been a legitimate antidote to beginning with dubious first principles. Today, the ridiculousness of the conclusion derived from those first principles makes no difference since the first principles are infallible aspects of the received social justice narrative. Yet, those first principles are never subjected to rigorous scrutiny by those who push them the hardest.

At times, such scrutiny is simply ignored.

If you have truth to share, then I think you can hope for nothing better than to elicit polite interest from some people, while others completely ignore you.

In various jurisdictions within nation-states today, and in some non-physical venues in cyberspace, some messages become like Orwell’s “non-persons.” They aren’t curiosities. They are not ridiculed. They are not merely ignored. They are liquidated, deleted, removed. They exist only in the minds of some few living persons who personally witnessed their previous existence.

High school and college are minefields. This is tiny compared to other stuff I have heard and seen.

I believe you. For that reason I encourage you to post an example. My only caveat is that you should provide (in the title of a new thread) the names of the publisher and editor, with foremost attention paid to the editor and secondary attention paid to the publisher. The name of the writer shouldn’t be directly disclosed by you.

After all, the job of the editor is to make the author’s manuscript draft suitable for publication. The editor works with what the author produced, and this is not a mere preference. If the editor relies upon spoken explanations provided to the editor, but not to the reader, then the editor is being educated. What about the eventual reader? The reader sees only the final product. The reader has no access to the drafts that the author submitted to the editor, no access to the author’s answers to questions asked by the editor, and no opportunity for back-and-forth dialogue with the author.

If the publisher failed to find somebody who can do the job competently, then the publisher should be trying to create an opportunity for somebody. For example, the opportunity could be for a full-time student who will soon graduate and need a job, or for somebody who is currently unemployed, or for somebody who is employed part-time and needs more hours per month of paid work.
