This semester I have a western civilization class. I love history, so I figured I’d take it as I needed it anyway. Unfortunately this class has a very anti-Catholic and anti-Christian/Judaism perspective in general.

For example, the textbook mentioned “iconoclasm” and it said there was a backlash in the 500’s/600’s towards religious art/statues. However, it went on to say there were Christians who used the art/statues as a reminder and didn’t worship them, but then the book says “there was a fine line between them…”

Give me a break. Using statues/art as reminders is nowhere near worshiping a statue. This is obviously anti Catholic. My teacher isn’t any better either. He earlier mentioned that Catholics “worship” statues and Orthodox worship “Icons”.

I love history, but this specific class is getting on my nerves. I hate seeing the Church getting bashed by uneducated atheists. It brings back painful memories of when I was a very stupid 13 year old atheist who hated all religions, but especially Christianity. 🤬

It might be painful and aggravating, but having such discussion make you a stronger Christian, and better able to retie error when you come across it.
Don’t get so worked up Just make sure you know the truth before engaging in these debates. This is going to happen all your life in every area of your life.
It makes be a co-worker, a teacher at your child’s school, a repairman that starts up a conversation in your home, or one of those people who try to convert others door to door.
Get some good books and CDs on apologetics. LightHouse ministries (Fr Larry Richards) has a bunch of good ones.

I had a western civilization book, that said that Roman Catholic beliefs in the sacraments were technically Magic. I wonder if that’s the same book…
