I know that Spain’s economy suffered greatly because usury was banned. At the same time, Protestant countries had flourishing economies because they allowed usury. Because capitalism uses a lot of ideas from the Enlightenment and capitalism worked better for the Protestant countries of Europe, is it safe to say capitalism is Protestant?

But then, I believe there was another poster on another thread that said the Cistercians started the foundations of capitalism.

I question this because I was watching Beck and there was a reporter that said Catholics really did not like capitalism.

I have a good holding explaining the Crusades and the Inquisition, but I would like more talking points for this issue.

God Bless

Reporters sometimes like to make things up, and other times they get their facts wrong.

Capitalism is neither Catholic nor Protestant. The Catholic Church neither endorses nor rejects capitalism in and of itself.
