I would like others opinions on a little dilemma I am having, I have been offered a room in a Orthodox monastry upon my release but I like to think I am a practising Catholic but the Abbot expects me to get involved in the prayers every couple of hours or so first one being 5am in the morning, could I still be a Catholic whilst living in an Orthodox monastry?

You would need to find a Catholic Mass on Sunday (or Saturday evening) but as far as I am aware there are no Orthodox beliefs that are incompatible with Catholicism (in fact I believe that the Orthodox liturgy is the exact same as one of the Eastern rites) so I don’t see an issue with participating in their prayers.

Are the monks aware that you are Catholic?

Yes they are aware, the monks are very good friends of mine, the monastry has just been handed over to my ex priest who will be the Abbot and that is why they offered me a bed
