Anxiety ever since been vegan

Requesting prayers for help with anxiety. I started eating a plant-based diet this past December, so I’m going on 3 months Vegan now. The 6 weeks were amazing. My digestive system thanked me and I felt more energetic than ever. Starting in February I noticed some changes. I gained weight, and I started feeling more anxious. Given that I’ve had anxiety in the past, but it’s gone away now for 5 years, it is returning now and I’m thinking it’s my new lifestyle change. I don’t want to give up being vegan as I’m happy with my choice. I just don’t want to have panic attacks and nightmares like I used to get 5 years ago. I want to be in peace and be happy. I have yet to see a doctor to check my blood work and see if I’m lacking vitamins/nutrients, but I will schedule an appointment soon. My daughter has also been feeling anxiety lately as well, she isn’t vegan but I’ve noticed her having nightmares and anxiety about being alone. What could be causing this? Please send prayers our way so that we may be in peace. Thank you for reading my post.
 
I have an anxiety disorder and I know for certain that eating protein and healthy fats not only keep me slender but more importantly help immensely with my anxieties.In fact I notice how much better I feel if I grab a slice of turkey when anxiety sets in.

@Hollymffns.—I can understand why someone would want to follow a vegetarian or vegan diet for ethical reasons, but do you also expect it to be beneficial to your health? Or do you consider that the ethical considerations outweigh any possible negative impact on your health?
 
Vegans tend to have diets based on carbohydrates, which means your energy levels peak and trough much more than if you were on a diet higher in fat and protein. I suppose this could cause anxiety.

Suggest you see that doctor, and take your daughter with you. What you are describing sounds like something more than just a dietary issue. Environmental maybe? Asking for advice or an “in effect” diagnosis of what could be a physical condition is not the purview of anonymous posters on an internet forum. See the doctor!

You can get plenty of protein and healthy fats from a vegan diet. Soy products, like tofu and soymilk, are high in protein, as are beans, lentils, nuts, and seeds. For healthy fats, try olive oil, avocados, nuts, and nut butters.

This is a common myth. Not all vegans live on rice, pasta, and bread.

Sorry to hear about your anxiety. I hope your doctor’s visit brings you relief.

Having your vitamins checked is certainly a good idea. As a vegan, you will want to either take a B-12 supplement or eat foods fortified with B-12 (like soymilk).

That’s the Tryptophan in the turkey, not the turkey itself. You can get Tryptophan in other foods or from supplements.
 
It’s not a myth. Vegan diets are generally higher in carbohydrates.

It’s not true of me or any of the vegans I know. It’s not true of the recipes I get from the vegan websites I visit. And it’s not true of the meals I have when I meet with my vegan & vegetarian dinner group.

I wonder where you got the idea that this is generally how we eat.
