Are there any specifically Roman Catholic ministries serving truck drivers and over-the-road workers?

I don’t know but it’d be an excellent idea to start one if there isn’t …

I agree an excellent idea!

I am reminded of the big cross in the Texas panhandle off I40. The story goes if I remember correctly this retired couple built this huge cross off the freeway. They had no intention of anything happening other then building a cross there. Well, it started drawing the truck drivers and other folks driving through. With donations left by folks they built three smaller crosses as well as the stations of the cross that circles the big cross. A ministry was eventually formed. I haven’t been through there in a while but they were building a chapel when I last drove through. Not Catholic though. But I always like to stop there.

somebody posted here not too long ago a link to a story about priests who regularly minister to drivers at truck stops, and about a biker ministry. I tried to search once before and the thread titles had wording that made search difficult, but I will give it another shot. since I live near freeway north to SA and central TX, and there is 2-3 truckstops at every exit, I can verify that evangelicals, JWs, Mormons and assorted other groups (never was hare krishna, however) evangelize heavily at truck stops.

Truck Stop Ministry… The deacons of the Archdiocese of Chicago are already involved.

Truck Stop Chaplains need your help. There are eight million truckers on the road every day just begging for someone to minister to their needs. This is not rocket science. It is only a ministry of presence. We listen and minister to their human needs. In turn we are ministered to by them.
The acceptance by the truckers is truly amazing. They recognize that they really like the fact that we take the time to be there for them and listen to their needs. It is a lonely business, driving a truck, so to find someone that will take the time to listen to their needs and point them to resources at home, is almost unbelievable to them.
We need to expand into other truck stops and have enough chaplains to cover every night of the week.
Please consider this important ministry.
