Any Church is OK?

OK , i know this person who says that you don’t need to be any denomination, and to tell you the truth, i had no comeback. He says all you need is a Bible and your set. He said he don’t believe in any church, and just reads the good book. I told him why he should be catholic, and he said, no where in the bible does it say, be a catholic, but it does say be a Christian. What can i tell him to help him realize that the CATHOLIC church is the true faith.

of course you have a comeback… you tell the friend that his statement is not scriptural, not traditional, not logical… you have got to read and study your scripture and catecism my friend, as a soldier for Christ it is not only your obligation or duty to spread the word about the Church of Christ (The Catholic Church) but it is a mandate from Christ… put on your armor and give it you best shot.
The good news is, we and these forums are here to help you, don’t waste a good thing… use us or loose us… be not afraid, you will not loose us…

Well, if he’s got the Bible, Jesus does say in there that you must eat his flesh and drink his blood, or you will not have life in you. That might be a good reason to become Catholic.

Does your friend go to non-denom services or listen to any pastors? If so, it’s more than just him and his Bible.

Also, Acts 8:26-35. We need more than just scripture.

Just a suggestion. Ask him also how he received the Bible into his hands. It didn’t just fall out of the sky.

Tell him that the Catholic Church decided what books belong in the bible in the Canon of Books. Also tell him that in the early Church they didn’t have the Bible the way we do today so does that mean that all the people back during the time of the early Church are not saved.

A Great Book to Read is “Where we Got the Bible and our Debt to the Catholic Church.” I think you can even buy it on Catholic Answers website. Very well written and historically correct, written by a man who was non-Catholic and came into the Church through his trying to find Apostolic Succession in his own Church.

Yeah that and the Pope/hierarchy is very important read John and Matthew and Isaiah. I don’t have exact verses

Gos.Matthew- Peter given the Keys to the Kingdom
Isaiah- The keys are given to the prime minister who is the vicar of the king( Chirst the King- the Pope is his vicar on earth)
Gos.John- Peter Feed my sheep, tend my lambs, tend my sheep( Christ is the Good shepherd we are his sheep and lambs)

and don’t forget you are Kepha/Peter/Rock and upon this Kepha/Peter/Rock I will build my church. (kepha means rock in Aramaic the original language of that gospel)

Stress the Eucharist
Stress confession thats in John during Pentecost and In the Letter of James.

Peter also states in his second letter that no scripture is for personal interpretation!that verse i do have and it should be in his bible!!
Pet2:vs20-21
20 Know this first of all, that there is no prophecy of scripture that is a matter of personal interpretation, 21 for no prophecy ever came through human will; but rather human beings moved by the Holy Spirit spoke under the influence of God.

I wonder how your friend interprets the Scriptures or who he goes to for instruction when he is having some difficulty. What does he tell other Christians who interpret certain passages differently than himself. Are they all wrong, do they not possess the Holy Spirit as he himself does? Ask him if the Holy Spirit reveals the truth to him personally in a way that would supercede any other interpretation. Ask him if he is infallible, and if not, how can he possibly interpret the Scriptures with any confidence at all. Should we all be going to him for answers since he has a Bible and therefore knows all there is to know? But then again, why should we go to him and not somebody else who also has a copy of the Bible. For that matter we all have our own copies so that must make us all infallible; but then that would mean that we would all interpret Sripture the same way. The fact that we disagree means that at least one of us is not infallible; how do we know it is not him? What proof can he show us that he is the sole infallible one among all others? Or if none of us are infallible then that means that none of us knows the truth; that we are all subject to error. How do we know when or how we err? If he is capable or error, does he know when he has erred? If not, then any of his interpretations are subject to error; but then that would defeat his original proposition that all we need is a Bible!
