Are any of the monastic communities on Mt Athos in communion with the Holy See? If so, do any of them accept retreat visitors?

HOLY MOUNTAIN AFOS

No Catolics but do not be afraid to go to visit Orthodox monasteries. There are 20 and monasteries govern the mountain. The most famous is the Great Lavra, but are also Serbian, Bulgarian and Russian monasters. Russian is St. Pantaleimon. Must obtain a diamonitirion (permission) and then can obtain bus from Saloniki to Holy Mountain.

You must be Orthodox to live on the Holy Mountain.

Furthermore, you must have received canonical Orthodox baptism by triple immersion, which makes things difficult for converts, including clergy, who have been received by chrismation.

You must also be a male man to step foot on the Island, so I am excluded from all directions. 😉 😃 :rotfl:

God Bless,
R.

There were at one time Latin monks on Athos–the Monastery of Morphonou.

In the Canon, they commemorated the Pope, then the Ecumenical Patriarch, since Athos was directly under the Patriarch’s jurisdiction.

Oddly enough, there has never been a “Bishop of Athos.”
