I am thinking seriously of donating to Catholic Medical Mission Board, but I want to be sure that they are not divergent in their practice of the Catholic faith. It appears from my research that they face the Aids/Hiv epidemic without promoting contraception, which is great, but I want to hear from others who may have some experience or knowledge of CMMB. Anyone here can offer some pro or cons on CMMB and their fidelity to Church teaching?

Thanks a lot.

I’ve contributed to them before and as far as I know they are a worthwhile charitable organization. See the charity navigator site here and their own website here.

The only thing that ever irked me about them is when they started doing telemarketing. I don’t mind mail marketing from charities, but I really dislike telemarketing, especially 3rd party telemarketing.

My concern is whether they employ a professional fund raising firm. Most of the $ goes to the fundraiser, does it not? Does anyone know? CMMB does a lot of work in Haiti.

I know that the Columban Fathers do not use fundraisers – they do their own fundraising.

I think that they do use a professional fundraiser, because the person calling usually gives the name of the organization they work for followed by “calling for CMMB.” However, the CMMB website says that 97.8% of contributions go to programs. Maybe they got a good deal from the telemarketer.

But telemarketers, even if they are not taking a lot off the top (and usually they are) tend to be more pushy than employees. That’s why I hate that so many charitable groups are using professional telemarketers.

My biggest question (LOOKING FOR AN ANSWER) is that it is partnering to solve ‘health’ issues around the world. Is that a buzz-word for Contraception, Abortion, etc? It’s so hard to get to a bottom line. Love the Jesuits’ hearts, but concerned about un-Orthodox alignments that are not tied to Magisterial Teaching.

Can someone answer this one???

In answering my question above, I’d truly like an apologist, or someone with a viable link for an answer…not merely someone’s opinion.
