Any exceptions to the necessity of the state of grace for Communion?

Hi there,

Could you please inform me as to the church’s teaching on exceptions (if indeed any do exist) to the “Communion only in the State of Grace” rule? I mean like circumstantial complications, personal, psychological or emotional difficulties, (i.e. Peer pressure, public position, wrong place wrong time…) etc.

Hi,

If a person is in the state of mortal sin, there is no way that he can be allowed to receive our blessed Lord in Holy communion—period. Whether one is guilty of sin in a particular case is another matter. But under no circumstances may one receive the Eucharist in the state of mortal sin. To do so is another mortal sin.
