So, I sometimes like to read Catholic conversion stories. I usually go to whyimcatholic.com, but I have not seen any new stories put up in a while. So, got any good conversion story recommendations? It can be over the Internet, but, I would prefer a book because these stories on the Internet are often too short and I feel as if too much good stuff is being left out. And I need contemporary stories, you know, with the authors still alive unless the story is so good that no one can pass it up. And, I would prefer not to read convict-to-convert stories because there are a lot of them and they feel sort of like a cliché to me.

So, I have read a lot of protestant to Catholic stories since those are most common and a good deal of atheist/agnostic/New Age stories on the Internet. I have read a handful of Muslim/Hindu/Buddhist to Catholic stories, but they were a long time ago and the Jewish convert stories that I have read usually come from Jews that were pretty secular. Usually, I enjoyed the stories about atheist/agnostic converts the best because I have never met a devout protestant in my life and the former’s scenario is easier to imagine. Plus, the story gets good when the person seems to have done well for his or herself and live comfortable by worldly standards, but something is still missing. Plus these secular conversion stories tend to hold answers to common misconceptions prevalent in the wider culture.

But, some really good conversion stories about people who were devout Protestants would be nice as well since it gives me insight on another category of Catholic misconceptions as well. Plus, I learn things about people outside my area of the United States through these protestant conversion stories. I rarely travel outside of state and I live within the Chicago land area were most people are at least nominally Catholic with a good deal of Muslims and Hindus as well, but people rarely mingle outside their ethnic groups.

Thanks and give me what you got.

I can give you my story but it isn’t a “good” story I don’t think…

I was born to an Atheist family with Baptist Grandparents. My earliest experiences of Church are when I did a youth group at my Grandparents church and we would sometimes go on special occasions. My great-grandparents were very devout too. Unfortunately, my great-granddad died about 2 years ago but his wife still goes and is very well beloved. Our surname is kind of famous in that church 🙂

I really came to faith when I was about 11 years old. I had just started Secondary School (I’m not sure of the American Equivalent) an we were all given small red bibles with the new testament and psalms. I guess I’d though, long time no see bible. Let’s have a little read!

So I did. I had questions so I met up with the school Chaplain (who is an Anglican Priest and still a dear friend of mine) and he supervised (I guess you could say) my bible resting and encouraged me! I accepted the Christian religion!

Then Baptism came up. I was looking at Churches and it made sense to me to go back to the beginning of the Church. The Catholic Church. I was at first going to be baptised into the Chaplain’s church but I changed my mind.

I met up with the priest of the Catholic Church in my area and he made plans for baptism, holy communion and confirmation.

I was baptised and had my 1st Holy Communion on Easter Vigil 2014 and Confirmed (after I had done the classes for a year!) with my friends on the 15th of June 2014.

My family are semi-supportive of this.

The Catholic Faith has really helped me through some tough times, Depression, Addictions, Helping me cope with being a young carer and my soul feels so in tune with The Lord!!

People say that change isn’t possible and big decisions cannot be made young. I am 13 years old, a PROUD recent convert to Catholicism with atheist parents (one of whom is disabled, the other doesn’t want to know me) with two sets of parents who cares for her family and try’s hard with friends (whom like my father don’t want to know me) is discerning the religious life and is trying to get to heaven.

Anyone can convert with the gospel and the help of God, Our Lady and the Saints!

Actually, seems like a great story to me. Wonderful in fact.

Have sent them the story of Ulf Ekman, a lovely read also.

Check out the “Surprised By Truth” books edited by Patrick Madrid, and look at the catalogs of Ignatius Press and Our Sunday Visitor for more books. There are probably more but those are the ones where I found several of the conversion story books I own and love. :coffeeread: And each story is a decent length chapter. 👍
