I want to play a good catholic video/pc game preferably first person view 3D game. I tried searching for exorcism game but most titles comes up as either very bloody, violent and focus more on evil than the hero. So far I only found The Exorcist: Legion VR (see video below). If you have nice game titles, do recommend me.

As far as I know there’s no Catholic video game, just some poor Christian games so bad and silly that many Youtubers make videos mocking them.
There are games where the Catholic faith and the Church are present, but this doesn’t mean that they’re Catholic or religion focused only.

I’ve been toying with the idea of making an explicitly-Catholic metroidvania, but I don’t know that I’d be able to actually manage it.

The Castlevania series has some Catholic influences in it… in my favorite game of the series (Aria of Sorrow), the save rooms all clearly contain statues of Mary… That’s about as Catholic as it gets though.

Well, if I ever actually make it I’ll keep that in mind.

In my idea, the powers would all be based on traditional gifts attributed to some saints. For example, the gift of tongues would let you read placards to solve puzzles, or bilocation would allow you to be in multiple parts of the castle simultaneously. Basically game-ified versions of gifts of the Spirit.

The basic story idea I have is that you’re a priest of a monastic order trying to reach the king of the castle, who sold his soul for power. Based on choices you make through the game you could either wind up saving his soul, or you would be forced to kill him.

Dunno, it’s all really rough. I love the idea, but lack the skills to bring it to life.

Exorcism is not a game, not a plaything. It is an very powerful work of the Church.

http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc/para/1673.htm

1673 When the Church asks publicly and authoritatively in the name of Jesus Christ that a person or object be protected against the power of the Evil One and withdrawn from his dominion, it is called exorcism. Jesus performed exorcisms and from him the Church has received the power and office of exorcizing. In a simple form, exorcism is performed at the celebration of Baptism. The solemn exorcism, called “a major exorcism,” can be performed only by a priest and with the permission of the bishop. The priest must proceed with prudence, strictly observing the rules established by the Church. Exorcism is directed at the expulsion of demons or to the liberation from demonic possession through the spiritual authority which Jesus entrusted to his Church. Illness, especially psychological illness, is a very different matter; treating this is the concern of medical science. Therefore, before an exorcism is performed, it is important to ascertain that one is dealing with the presence of the Evil One, and not an illness.

It weirds me out a bit too. OP, you may be excessively interested in demonology/exorcism based on your other threads. That’s not necessarily healthy.

Yeah, I like video games and I love the Church, but I don’t think I’d be playing any exorcist video games. Give me something totally non-realistic—like Mario jumping on turtles and goombas.

I do like bringing the faith to bear on all things. There are many good Catholic books, movies, plays, art, music, etc. So it seems like there should be a way to make a good Catholic video game, too. And it seems that there are threads like this one that pop up every so often from people looking for such a thing. But I can’t say I have ever seen such a game, nor am I creative enough to think of how it would work.

Do games with the protagonist being Catholic and following his values wholeheartedly count as “Catholic video games”?

Do you mean specifically Catholic or Christian in general or Christian-friendly?

Not really a Catholic game, but I enjoyed the old Assasin’s Creed games just because you can explore the Duomo in Florence and St. Mark’s in Venice.

Don’t know any exorcist games but I do know a great 3D PC 1st person shooter Catholic video game called Catechumen

“Set in ancient Rome, during the days of the early Christian church, the game follows a young Christian student as he delves deep into a labyrinth of Roman catacombs in order to rescue his mentor and brethren from Satan and his demons”

I played it a few years ago and I might play it again, it’s good. You are a Christian fighting for Christ against demons and possessed Roman solders (during 171AD) with swords given to you throughout the game by angels - you unlock more powerful swords until you eventually get the final sword and the final boss is satan himself. It’s not a children’s game by any means, it’s a good adult game and has a mix of demons, violence, Theology, Gospel verses, holy war fighting, and to a level exorcism in that you destroy demons by the power of Jesus through the sword.

Based on your interests, I think this game is perfect for you. Let me know if you do play it, how you like it!

Yeah, Catechumen is about as close as you’re going to get to a decent Christian game. There’s one guy I watch on YouTube who tends to mock Christian games when he plays them, but he enjoyed Catechumen to an extent. I’m not a huge fan of the game myself, but I’ve played worse and more forgettable DOOM clones.

I actually thought Eternal War: Shadows of Light was a bit more enjoyable than Catechumen. It’s still not on the same level as DOOM, but again, there’s a ton of worse DOOM clones out there.

Producing first rate pc games is a multi million dollar undertaking is it not? More than $ 10 M??

I forget now. It would be cool, though.

(former pc game addict) 😃
