Hey everyone. I’m usually over on the apologetics board. I’d like some good reference sites on Eastern Catholicism. I’m Roman Catholic and if someone asked me questions about Eastern Catholicism and what makes it different than Roman Catholicism it would be hard for me to answer. I’d have to say, “I know we’re both Catholic” and that’s it. Just curious and looking for some good reading!

P.S. Also looking for info so as not to get confused as to the difference between Eastern Catholicism and Greek, Russian Orthodox, etc.

Thanks! Especially like the pdf, I can print it out and read it curled up on the couch!

This article:
The Healing of Memories and the Problem of Uniatism

Very very interesting. I can’t say I completely understood all of it, but very interesting!!

byzcath.org has a lot of information about Eastern Catholicism. They also have an active forum with a lot of Eastern Catholics participating. As with any forum, it has all types, but you do get a good “feel” for Eastern Catholicism from them, as well as knowledgeable answers to most questions.

I think that the existence of the differences between the Roman and the Eastern Catholic Churches (and even the smaller differences within the Eastern Churches) are very interesting because they illustrate so well how the Church is alive. Does that make any sense?

bookgirl32,

It makes sense because like a body, a living organism, there are different organs with different functions. We can’t all be an arm, or a liver, etc. Likewise, in the Universal Church, there are regional Churches with various traditions, gifts, forms, that help to complement one another for the greater good of all. We can’t all be Latin, or Greek, or Aramaic, etc.

And just like a body shares certain essentials that keep it alive, such as the blood, the Catholic Church likewise shares a common oneness on the essentials such as the Apostolic Faith.

God bless,

Rony

Thank you for putting it in those terms. That’s exactly what I meant. I also think that it helps those in the Latin Rite that have problems with different councils, etc. (VII, for example, but not trying to start a discussion on that).
