I am a grandparent. Have you ever spoken the truth to your children and had it cause a family

rift? Maybe I will not see my grandchildren because of it, that would break my heart.

In order to keep peace, I read we as grandparents should not speak out about how they live,

but I did. Just wonder if there are any others in here with some experience with this.

I suggest things(criticize) to our daughter…in moderation,…but she is not unstable that she would not talk to us or keep us from seeing our grandchildren, 4yr., & 3month old!

I am not quite sure I understand what you are asking. You mean the truth about being a Christisn or the truth about Catholicism?

I gave my daughter-in-law a Bible several years ago. She wasn’t going to church. She was pretty rebellious and a new mother. She finally has been going to church. If I bring up the Catholic church she gets a little hostile. She attends a nondenominational. She has made progress for which I sm thankful. My son doesn’t seem interested and I pray for him.

No, what I spoke of to them…it was not about being a Christian, the things I said. Although…when a family is all Christian, then they can, in scripture, find the way to follow.
They would know how to forgive, how to lift one another up if falling…
It is extremely difficult when those you love…do not know.

this…it feels like so heavy…to walk as Christ walked, to witness to those you so dearly love. how they can know Christ’s love and mercy when no one around you is doing same.

Well I can not do alone. But, I am not alone.

thank you all. please pray for me, mostly for my family.

Pray to God for guidance. I have found that what my husband and I say isn’t going to matter most of the time. Our son is as strong-minded as I was at his age. We try to only comment on things that we either feel very strongly about or feel that our experience can help. He has come to realize that we aren’t giving our “2-cents” about everything but, rather, only those things that are really concerning and/or where we might have something of value to share.

This has worked for us and we are able to influence our grandchildren during the time thwy spend with us.

I am sure you want only the best for your child and his/her family. Pray for direction and for THEM.

Hugs!

thank you for your words of encouragement. I think most of the time I do as you were saying. However on this one occasion, everything just blurted out, late, after their work. so the point of what I said was overshadowed by my very bad timing and delivery method.! and it has hurt feelings. Im praying very much. I pray very much for my family.
blessings!

I find my witness is more effective without words with my (stubborn, Irish) family. Even if it means sometimes biting my tongue . . . :shamrock2:

Yes… I have spoken the truth a few times more than once. Sometimes it was well received depending on my attitude. Other times, it was a crisis. However, one of the best advice I got from my spiritual director was that I only needed to speak the truth with love and compassion one time (depending on the severity of the situation). No need to continue to bring up the same subject again. I try to let my daughter make her own decisions accept that she needs to live this life of hers with her child and she will learn through the trials. I treat her as I would like to have been treated at her age with respect as a parent. There are many times, I don’t agree with the way she handles parenthood. This is when I just hand it over to Jesus and Our Mother Mary, pray the rosary, chaplet of Divine Mercy and let Mary untie the knots…
