Amazon has finally gone into producing their own TV shows, starting with a series based on Michael Connelly’s Harry (short for Hieronymous) Bosch novels. Only the pilot is up so far & it it is a very faithful adaptation.

WARNING: foul language, violence (hey, it’s a cop show) and iirc the book “adult content” will be in subsequent episodes.

Bosch’s character is very dark. As a homicide detective his creed is “everybody counts or nobody counts”.

I like those books and didn’t know about the Amazon effort. I’ll check it out. Thanks!

I’m not sure about the character of Harry Bosch. In some of the books he comes across as a hard-working well-meaning detective, whose attempts are sabotaged by others.

In other books he comes over as the complete opposite, a pompous bully with no regard for proper process and no respect for those around him and filled with a pure hate of those he is investigating against.

I’d agree to an extent. He has a contempt for the judicial process which is common among cops. His brutality is explained by his life experiences and he tries to keep it in bounds.
On the plus side I don’t recall him (and it’s awhile since I read the books ) planting evidence or beating confessions out of suspects. Compare to Sipowicz of NYPD Blue (much more sympathetic character) who is willing to do “whatever it takes”.

I guess at his lowest moments, he’s a bit like Sam Vimes without the funny bits.
