On April 26th I’m going to give a talk at a confirmation retreat. There will be about 50 confirmation candidates and that talk I am going to give is suppose to be “About Masks” I’m suppose to talk about being yourself (and a good catholic) with all the peer pressure that exists in high school. I want to know if anyone can help me out a little give me some ideas. I don’t write anything down when i give a talk(I like to just pray before i start talking and its always worked) but i like to have ideas in the back of my head. Any ideas?

I’d begin like this:

"You wake up and hear the news on CNN. As of today, it is illegal to be Catholic in the United States of America. Those who are practicing Catholics are to be jailed for life. You see video of priests and nuns being led off in handcuffs…

You get to school, and you see that a sort of court room has been set up in the gym. Each student will in turn be tried before the judge and jury to determine if they are, in fact, a practicing Catholic.

Will there be any evidence to convict you?"

How about thinking what it would be like if you were not Catholic. would you be any different? would you treat people different?
would you look at the world differenetly? would you even talk differently? would the reflection in the mirror be close to what it is today or way off. Peace

I gave a ( 7-16-18yo) Confirmation Retreat one year and used the Early Church martyrs as the basis. This Rock this month has a good article on the African Martyrs. I used three older movies, Stand and Deliver, Black Robe, Original Intent, and Romero. We watched a movie then discussed for 15-20 minutes how it related to the Early Church and how it related to their lives today. Took a break. Repeated with another, then the third, then the foruth.

I don’t like re-inventing the wheel (but like decorating it). When I was a youth minister I used various resources found in our city’s Catholic bookstore. Perhaps you can call yours to see what it has on hand? Here are some I’ve used:
