Any Maronite Catholics out there?

To add on further, I know that Bishop George was willing to accept me, not so much because I was interested, tho’ I was, but because the parish members said they thought I should be a priest, despite being married. I was unable to meet his other requirements… until recently… of quitting smoking and getting the Wife’s permission. Took me years from that point to quit. The wife still isn’t certain…

We Maronites are having enough struggle trying to reclaim our heritage, in this country and at home; the last thing we need is a disenfranchised Latin seeking to circumvent his church to take advantage of a tradition in ours.

It is important to know that the subject of married clergy in the Maronite Church can be extremely sensitive right now within the clergy, at least in the United States. The situation in Australia is similar, though the debate is less visible. It would be wise to refrain from pursuing a vocation in our church simply because of this issue, especially when there is disagreement among my own people in the first place.

You have my prayers, and my best.

Shlom lokh,

My pastor said that Eparch Mansour tried to approach the See of Rome about allowing a married man to be ordained in the US a few years ago, and they wouldn’t allow it. He apparently said if he could ordain married men, he’d only ordain those whose kids were nearly all grown or completely grown up, which I can agree with completely.

Alloho minokhoun,
Andrew

Yeshua,

You express exactly the problem I am having here.

They think somehow that I am a disenfranchised angry Latin coming to trample upon the traditions of the East and Maronites in particular.

It’s laughable. I would do no such thing! A vocation is a calling from God. If it’s there I want to make sure I answer his call. If not then at least I have done exactly what I should have done.

Another issue I have is that too many people are so uptight about thier Roman Church or Greek Church or Whatever Church that they are starting to lose sight of the bigger picture. That it is all apart of one church. God’s Church on Earth. I get the feeling that too many people on this forum are so worried about a Crusader coming into their Church and thorougly Latinizing it that they are closing thier eye’s to true interest and perhaps even God’s calling into thier own Church. I would not Latinze or wish to Latinize the Maronite Church. If anyone where to change here it would be me.

As for the Being a priest in the US, I was more than prepared to move out of the country knowing of the ban. I am more than willing to relocate to Lebanon, or anywhere else that I might be needed.

Thanks for the prayers, please keep em coming!
