there was a rumor circulating that the pope would sign a universal indult that would allow the latin mass to be more available. Any more word on it, or was it just a rumor?

And so to whom does NPR go for response? Richard McBrian and a Catholic woman who is older than me who perpetuates the fiction that, no, we didn’t know what was going on. Sheesh! No, I wasn’t given a handy-dandy St. Joseph Missal when I made my first Communion in 1958. No, I wasn’t given another full Missal in 1963 when I was confirmed. Hogwash! I don’t have a problem with Mass either the TLM or the NO! What I want is a return to the reverence! My parish is very orthodox but is it as reverent as it could be? No. Unfortunately, the only way one can experience the reverence is to go to a TLM. And the thing that gets very little discussion is that the Latin Mass could be understood by ANY Catholic world wide regardless of language!

I’m not surprised. NPR is very liberal.

If you liked the NPR spot, you’ll LOVE the online ABC News segment on Milingo and clerical celibacy today… 😛

That said, I do think it’s possible to say a reverent Mass in the vernacular. The Eastern Catholics seem to do it perfectly fine, and remember, there was a time that the Latin WAS the vernacular. That said, I think occasion Latin NO Masses are a very good idea, and I’m glad the TLM is going to be an option everywhere soon.

Of course you will see liberals who don’t like Latin. It is a sign of unity, and practically screams Catholic.

There are many who don’t understand Latin and it is easier for them to understand the vernacular, they are more comfortable that way. That is ok, that doesn’t mean that Latin is wrong. The vernacular is just fine for conversation and learning.
Unity and Catholicism is expressed beautifully in Latin.
Now Latin will always get a reaction by anti-catholics as it just is wrong to the anti-catholics, as it irritates them just like mentioning the Blessed Mother.
Anything distinctly Catholic such as Latin, Mary, the Eucharist will always have opposition by those who oppose Catholicism.

In Christ
Scylla

You know, that is so true.
I have Protestant friends who sigh deeply and loudly whenever I mention something distinctly Catholic.
I just roll my eyes and tell them to man up and deal with it.

But yes, back on topic.

Has anyone asked their priests their opinion about the rumoured indult?
What did they say?

Oh MY GOSH they interviewed Dawn Eden in that interview!!!

OH MY the interviewer had no idea that she was interviewing a staunchly conservative former evangelical to Catholic convert who is one of Planned Parenthoods Principal critics on the blogosphere
She is a recent convert to Catholicism.

Kinda weird to have The Abortionists favorite radio network (NPR) unwittingly invterview her coming out of Mass. Probably divine providence.

Here is her website:
