I’ve heard it said, ‘Times change, and rules change.’ So my question is… are there any truly new sins?

As an example, keep in mind that in vitro fertilization can be categorized under abortion (a very old sin) and fornication (if the sperm is not from the husband).

Also, condoms have been around since the Roman Empire. Ditto for potions to prevent pregnancy.

So… I’m prepared to be surprised. Any new sins?

Cloning.

The vast ocean of online pornography.

Chatroom stalking.

Digital voyeurism.

Internet hacking.

Writing Internet viruses.

(I’m sure there are many more.)

blowing up comets? (so says one astrologer.) 😉

I don’t believe there are any new sins so to speak. Any sin that is perceived as being “new” can easily be covered by existing sins.

Cloning humans hasn’t happened yet. When it does that will likely fit under fornication and abortion, like in vitro.

There are plenty of ancient Roman and Egyptian etc. pornographic paintings, statues and grafitti. Lots and lots.

Chatroom stalking… that’s simply using conversation to stalk.

Digital voyeurism is no different from up-close voyeurism as far as Christian morality is concerned.

Internet hacking is violating property. Theft is theft. Breaking and entering is breaking and entering.

Writing internet viruses is sinless if strong precautions are taken to keep it from getting out. Otherwise see Internet hacking.

Blowing up comets? Can’t see the sin in that, considering that there are innumerable comets wandering around our solar system.

Agreed.

Some people seem to think that immorality was invented in this generation, when it was worse in earlier times.

I don’t think that there are any new sins…just new manifestations of the same old sins…

I once heard that at the base of every single sin, regardless of whether it’s lust, anger, heresy, or whatever you can imagine…
it all boils down to pride. It’s a very intresting thing to meditate on.
