Any other adoptive parents out there?

My sister is adopted. She is white and my father and I are Asian (I’m half). She always wanted to be Asian and struggled because her culture is Asian, but her race isn’t. It was confusing. As an adult, she still wishes she could be biologically Asian. No one can ‘fix’ this for her. But I do tell her a lot that she is legitimately culturally Asian. It’s her normal and what she knows and with a father from Tokyo, sometimes more so than Asians who are 5th generation American. On girl’s day, she gets gifts and cards, too. The most you can do is include and tell the child that they belong to both.

She is hurt that she was abandoned. We can’t take away that pain. We tell her they were dummies for leaving and it’s truly their loss. My parents forget she’s adopted because she is truly their daughter. It sucks when you can’t fix things for the people you love. I hope my love as a sister is at least a comfort.
