Hello, there!
I was wondering, are there any snake or reptile enthusiasts here? I run a tiny Etsy sticker shop where my ball python stickers are the number 1 seller. I was wondering if there are any Catholic snake lovers; as I see so many Christian resources talking about how they are evil (I mean, I wouldn’t want to get bit by one lol)! Aren’t they one of God’s beautiful creations?

While I do not keep snakes or reptiles as pets, primarily because I already have too many pets and reptiles require a heat lamp which can be a fire hazard, there is no Catholic teaching that snakes are “evil”. Snakes are part of God’s creation and serve good purposes on earth by controlling rodent and small animal populations.

The snake in Genesis is understood to be symbolic/ allegorical; it does not mean that snakes in general are evil.

Snakes are awesome! The way they move so well and gracefully without any legs is an example of the beauty of life and God’s creation. Plus they eat bugs and mice, so they are good to have outdoors around the home. I would never keep one indoors though.

One time, a large bull snake was in my house, and I tried to shoo it outside, but it went the opposite direction and slithered into the back of my giant TV. We just left it there. I dunno, whaddya do? It was nice because we never saw another mouse again. 🤷‍♀️
