Any success moving tabernacle back?

Hehe… the diocesan bishop hates it, but my parish priest was able to get the tabernacle permanently installed behind the high altar in the new parish church of my home parish. At the moment there are two thick marble doors and the frame is adorned with gold, and they’re working on raising money for something a bit more ornate. It’s still nice, though. Only church in the diocese with a tabernacle on (well, technically right behind) the high altar.

I’m very happy to say that a nearby Church has moved the tabernacle back to the Sanctuary only because of a newly ordained priest. Once appointed to this parish and he immediately moved it from a hidden side chapel to the center of the Sanctuary. Praise God!

Thank God for new priests! From what I keep hearing (and my own experience) the priests that are coming out of the seminaries these days tend to be more orthodox and traditional. Perhaps God is slowly turning the tide away from the silliness of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. The Fr. McBrien’s and Sister Mary Relevant’s of this world must be bewildered beyond words.

Our church too, has the Blessed Sacrament hidden away in a side alter that is difficult to find if you don’t know the church layout. When I enter any Catholic church I am looking for the Lord and expect him to be in a prominent place.

When I raised the question at Parish Council about adorning the chapel in some way to make it obvious where our Lord is; there was no support for the idea.

It hurts to see my Lord & Savior put aside like this! What do I do? One hates to be a trouble maker! For now I have decided that I need to spend my energy on other matters!

I asked my pastor why he wont move the tabernacle back to the High Altar? He said that a priest’s back should never be towards the tabernacle. Well, anyways, our new associate would like to see it get moved back to its original position, and so does much of the congregation. So I’m praying that the High Altar does not sit dormit there anymore.

I’m relatively new, and haven’t been to all the sites, but all the praise of great priests who courageously do good to their children, such as giving them Jesus in the Tabernacle makes me think it would be nice to see a, “My favorite priest” thread. Not to say who isn’t a favorite, but just to tell great things about great priests.

And, good news, my pastor just recently moved the tabernacle at our sister parish to the center of the sanctuary behind the altar of sacrifice. My parish was administered by the Augustinians for a century until a few years ago, and the High Altar with the Tabernacle was never moved, thanks be to God. But yes, catechesis is always important, especially in these days, in our culture which denies God’s existence in many practical ways. Also a neighboring parish in Watertown recently moved the Tabernacle back front and center! Glory be to God in this Year of the Eucharist!
