I am entering the seminary in the winter and would like to go on retreat before heading in.

I was just wondering if any of you out there had any suggestions on your favorite retreat houses or get aways.

It can be anywhere in the country. I would prefer a holy, devout, spiritual place to set my heart on the path with Christ.

Thanks for you help.

There is a Benedictine Monastery in Covington (? - or near there) Louisiana that my father, brothers and husband attend the first weekend in December every year. The monks there have taken a vow of silence and retreat participants do the same the weekend they spend there. There are lectures, prayer and times for reflecton throughout the weekend, ending with a Mass on Sunday afternoon. They’ve been going for years and love it. You are also welcome to attend laudes and vespers - overall it is a very fulfilling experience.

There is a similar retreat for women but I’ve never been. I just know that my family (the male side) loves this particular retreat. If you are interested, PM me and I’ll send you the particulars.

Mepkin Abbey (Trappist) in Moncks Corner, SC, is outstanding. It has the added advantage of being close to Charleston so you can get in a little sightseeing either coming or going.

Any Jesuit Retreat House would be an excellent choice. I usually go to the one in Faulkner, Md.

Yes! That is my suggestion, too! They have a website: www.mepkinabbey.org .👋

Depending on where you live and travel expenses. There is Conception Abbey in Conception Missouri. It is Benedictine. Just outside of St. Joseph. It is a wonderful place. There is St. Michaels Abbey run by the Norbertine priests in California

Look into the Institute for Priestly Formation at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.

Wonderful…

Please check out www.potta.com - the largest charismatic retreat center in the world … run by Vincentian priests …have retreats in English and ( several other languages …) where healings and miracles are an everyday event …would get a taste of the Power of The Word spoken in faith …

Rev. Fr. Jose is also a well known priest, who conducts benedectine and charismatic retreats , at a few centers again in India - very charismatically gifted … please email if would like his email addr.
God bless!

Mount Manresa in Staten Island, NY is an excellent Jesuit-run retreat house. I have been there many times. My Dad, a Fordham alumnus, has been there every year for over 40 years.
