A friend suggested that the person who numbered the verses in the Bible (a Catholic) intentionally numbered John 6:66 (666, the number of the Beast) as a jab at Protestants who deny the Real Presence.

It sounded kind of kooky to me; but, what the heck do I know about it? After all, 66 verses in a single chapter has to make John 6 one of the highest numbered in the Bible.

Does anyone have any Bible software to check this numbering out? What chapter has the highest number of verses?

John 6:66:
As a result of this, many (of) his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him.
:hmmm: 666 :hmmm:"… returned to their former way …"

It does sound pretty kooky, SINCE THERE WEREN’T ANY PROTESTANTS WHEN THE BIBLES NUMBERING SYSTEM came about!

That’s a funny one!

Notworthy

Chapters were “invented” in the 13th century. Two different numbering systems were invented around 1550. I believe the system used by most Bibles today was, in fact, invented by a Protestant.

Ahaaa!!!

Thanks for your knowledge.

I guess I should’ve dug deeper myself. :o

For the record, Psalm 78 has 72 verses. Psalm 119 has 176 verses!
